Chet Holmgren Sidelined for 8 to 10 Weeks After Foot Surgery

Oklahoma City Thunder Rookie Suffers Jones Fracture

Holmgren Expected to Miss Significant Portion of Regular Season

Chet Holmgren, the Oklahoma City Thunder's highly touted rookie, is expected to miss eight to ten weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his right foot. The injury occurred during a pro-am game in Seattle on August 20.

A Jones fracture is a break in the fifth metatarsal bone, located on the outside of the foot. It is a common injury among athletes, particularly basketball players. The recovery time can vary depending on the severity of the fracture, but it typically takes several weeks to heal.

Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, was expected to be a key contributor for the Thunder this season. The 7-foot-1 center averaged 14.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game in his lone season at Gonzaga.

The Thunder are already dealing with several injuries, including to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (knee) and Luguentz Dort (shoulder). Holmgren's absence will further deplete their roster and make it difficult for them to compete in a tough Western Conference.

Holmgren is expected to make a full recovery from the injury, but it is unclear when he will be able to return to the court. The Thunder are hoping to have him back in time for the playoffs, but it is possible that he could miss the entire regular season.
