Frustrated Argentina suffer shock 2-1 defeat at Paraguay
Argentina's lack of firepower once again exposed as Albirroja claim famous victory
Argentina's hopes of winning a major trophy for the first time since 1993 suffered a setback on Tuesday as they were beaten 2-1 by Paraguay in their opening match of the Copa America.
Lionel Messi's side were expected to beat Paraguay, who are ranked 33rd in the world, but they were outplayed for long periods and deservedly lost.
Paraguay took the lead through Miguel Almiron in the first half, and although Alejandro Gomez equalised for Argentina in the second half, they could not find a winner.
Lautaro Martinez missed a glorious chance to win the game in the dying minutes, and Argentina were made to pay when Derlis Gonzalez scored a brilliant winner for Paraguay in the final minute.
The defeat leaves Argentina bottom of Group B, and they will need to beat Uruguay and Chile in their remaining matches to have any chance of reaching the knockout stages.
For Paraguay, this is a famous victory and one that will give them confidence heading into the rest of the tournament.
