Jordan Mailata Has Been the NFL's Best Tackle over the Last Two Seasons
Jordan Mailata has improved his Pro Football Focus grade in each of his four seasons in the NFL.
The Philadelphia Eagles picked Mailata in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Australia, where he had never played a down of organized football.
He played rugby in Australia, but had the size and athleticism that the Eagles believed could translate to the NFL. And their belief has been rewarded.
Mailata played sparingly his first two seasons in the NFL, but became the Eagles' full-time starting left tackle in 2020 and has been one of the best tackles in the NFL ever since.
Here is a look at his overall Pro Football Focus grades through four seasons:
2018: 39.5 (49 games played)
2019: 59.4 (16 games played)
2020: 73.3 (15 games played)
2021: 84.2 (16 games played)
2022: 78.4 (17 games played)
Mailata's pass-blocking has been his strength. According to Pro Football Focus, he has not allowed a sack this season.
Through the first 12 weeks, he has also allowed only five quarterback pressures, which is tied for the fewest among all tackles.
Mailata has also been a force in the running game, helping the Eagles average 5.5 yards per carry this season, which ranks fifth in the NFL.
Overall, Mailata has been one of the best tackles in the NFL over the last two seasons. He has elite athleticism and his technique has improved each season.
At just 25 years old, Mailata is only going to get better and he could be one of the best tackles in the NFL for many years to come.
