Kyrie Irving Injury: Ruled out for Thursday
Brooklyn Nets Star to Miss Game Against Philadelphia 76ers
Irving Suffered Ankle Sprain in Monday's Win Over Bucks
Brooklyn Nets All-Star guard Kyrie Irving has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers due to an ankle sprain, the team announced Tuesday.
Irving suffered the injury in the third quarter of Monday's 125-117 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. He stepped on Giannis Antetokounmpo's foot while driving to the basket and immediately grabbed his ankle in pain.
Irving was able to walk off the court under his own power, but he did not return to the game. An MRI on Tuesday confirmed the ankle sprain.
The Nets are 2-0 this season without Irving, who is averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.
With Irving out, Spencer Dinwiddie is expected to start at point guard against the 76ers. Dinwiddie is averaging 16.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season.
The Nets will also be without Caris LeVert (thumb) and Taurean Prince (ankle) on Thursday.
The 76ers are 1-1 this season and are coming off a 117-111 win over the Chicago Bulls on Monday.
Tip-off between the Nets and 76ers is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
