Kyrie Irving Ruled Out for Mavericks Game Against Utah Jazz
Mavs Guard to Miss Contest Due to Calf Soreness
Quentin Grimes Expected to Start in Irving's Absence
Dallas, TX - The Dallas Mavericks will be without star guard Kyrie Irving when they face the Utah Jazz on Monday night due to calf soreness.
Irving, who has been dealing with the injury for the past few weeks, aggravated it during Saturday's win over the Los Angeles Lakers. He is expected to miss multiple games, according to head coach Jason Kidd.
"Kyrie is out tonight and will be re-evaluated after the game," Kidd said. "We're going to take it day-by-day and see how he feels."
In Irving's absence, Quentin Grimes is expected to start at shooting guard. Grimes, who was acquired from the New York Knicks in February, has been a solid contributor for the Mavericks, averaging 9.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
"Quentin has been playing well for us," Kidd said. "He's a good defender and he can knock down shots. We're confident that he can step up and fill in for Kyrie."
The Mavericks will need Grimes to play well if they want to beat the Jazz, who are currently the fourth seed in the Western Conference. Utah has won six of its last seven games and is playing with a lot of confidence.
"The Jazz are a good team," Kidd said. "They're well-coached and they have a lot of talent. We're going to have to play our best game to beat them."
The Mavericks and Jazz will tip off at 8:00 p.m. CT on Monday night in Salt Lake City.
