LSU spreading scoring around as Alabama State visits
Tigers host FCS Hornets in nonconference home finale
BATON ROUGE – LSU’s offense has shown a knack for putting up points from a variety of sources this season, and the Tigers will look to continue that trend when they host FCS Alabama State in their nonconference home finale on Saturday (11 a.m., SEC Network+).
Through four games, seven different LSU players have scored touchdowns, and 11 players have caught passes. The Tigers are averaging 45.0 points per game, which ranks 16th in the FBS.
Hornets making strides under first-year coach
Alabama State (2-2) is coming off a 28-16 victory over Grambling State last Saturday. The Hornets are in their first season under head coach Eddie Robinson Jr., the son of the legendary coach who led Grambling to 40 SWAC championships.
Robinson has brought a new energy to the Hornets program, and the team has shown improvement in each of its first four games. Alabama State is averaging 32.3 points per game, and the defense is allowing just 22.3 points per game.
What to watch for
Here are a few things to watch for in Saturday’s game:
- Can LSU continue to spread the wealth on offense? The Tigers have shown a lot of balance through four games, and they will need to continue to do so against Alabama State.
- How will Alabama State’s defense handle LSU’s passing attack? The Hornets have allowed just 194.8 passing yards per game this season, but they will be facing a much more potent passing attack on Saturday.
- Can Alabama State’s offense keep up with LSU? The Hornets have shown some offensive firepower this season, but they will need to be at their best to keep up with the Tigers.
