One-year countdown to China's 15th National Games marked in Guangdong
Guangdong has made "steady progress" in preparing for the 15th National Games of China, which is set to take place in the province from September 15 to 27, 2025.
The province officially marked the one-year countdown to the Games on June 3, 2024, in an event held in downtown Heyuan, one of the host cities of the Games.
Guangdong's provincial party secretary, Huang Kunming, said the province has made "steady progress" in preparing for the Games.
Huang said the province has completed the preliminary construction of 28 venues out of the total 31 planned venues for the Games and is working on the remaining three, including the main stadium.
According to Yuan Guohhua, deputy secretary-general of the Organizing Committee for the 15th National Games of China, 64 test events have been organized since 2023 and 10 more will be held before the Games.
Yuan said the organizing committee is actively preparing for the Games' opening and closing ceremonies and is working on the choreography and the cultural programs.
The 15th National Games will host 35 sports with 56 disciplines. The organizers are expecting more than 15,000 athletes and officials to participate in the Games.
