Stanford Stuffs Northern Arizona, Remains Unbeaten
Cardinal Defense Dominates as Offense Rolls
The Stanford Cardinal football team continued their impressive start to the season on Saturday, dismantling the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 42-10 at Stanford Stadium. The victory keeps Stanford undefeated at 3-0 on the year.
Defense Stifles Lumberjacks
The Stanford defense was the star of the show against Northern Arizona, holding the Lumberjacks to just 228 yards of total offense. The Cardinal forced three turnovers, including two interceptions by cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly, and sacked NAU quarterback RJ Martinez four times.
The defense's performance was particularly impressive given that they were without star linebacker Levani Damuni, who missed the game due to an injury. In Damuni's absence, linebackers Ricky Miezan and Devin Kirkland stepped up and made big plays for the Cardinal.
Offense Rolls Behind McCaffrey
While the defense was shutting down the Lumberjacks, the Stanford offense was clicking on all cylinders. Running back Christian McCaffrey led the way for the Cardinal, rushing for 150 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.
Quarterback KJ Costello was also sharp, completing 15 of 24 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside was Costello's favorite target, hauling in six catches for 99 yards and a touchdown.
Looking Ahead
With the win over Northern Arizona, Stanford remains one of the top teams in the Pac-12 Conference. The Cardinal will face their toughest test of the season next weekend when they travel to South Bend to take on the No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The game against Notre Dame will be a major test for Stanford, but the Cardinal have shown that they have the talent and depth to compete with the best teams in the country. If Stanford can pull off the upset in South Bend, they will be in a strong position to contend for the Pac-12 title and a berth in the College Football Playoff.
