Leylah Annie Fernandez saw her US Open run come to an end on Thursday, as she fell to Madison Keys in the women's singles semifinals. Fernandez, who was looking to become the first Canadian woman to reach a Grand Slam final since 2019, was defeated by Keys in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. The match lasted one hour and 24 minutes.
Fernandez started the match well, breaking Keys' serve in the first game. However, Keys broke back immediately and then held her serve to take a 2-1 lead. Fernandez was unable to regain the break and Keys went on to win the first set 6-3.

Fernandez's loss to Keys marked the end of a successful US Open for the Canadian. She reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career and defeated some of the top players in the world, including No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka and No. 5 seed Elina Svitolina.
