Vlaamse snelwegen overbelast door ochtendspits met kleine incidenten
Extreme congestion and numerous minor incidents cause exceptionally heavy morning rush hour on Flemish motorways
Traffic jams and delays of up to two hours reported
The morning rush hour on Flemish motorways was exceptionally heavy on Tuesday, with heavy traffic jams and delays of up to two hours. The heavy traffic was mainly due to a combination of heavy traffic and several minor incidents.
The Flemish Traffic Centre reported that the busiest roads were the E313 Antwerp-Liège, the E19 Antwerp-Brussels and the E40 Brussels-Leuven. On the E313, a traffic jam of more than 30 kilometers was reported between Ranst and Herentals. On the E19, a traffic jam of more than 20 kilometers was reported between Kontich and Machelen. And on the E40, a traffic jam of more than 15 kilometers was reported between Zaventem and Leuven.
In addition to the heavy traffic, several minor incidents also contributed to the delays. On the E314 Leuven-Aachen, a truck broke down between Heverlee and Bierbeek, causing a traffic jam of several kilometers. On the E403 Bruges-Antwerp, a car accident between Jabbeke and Bruges caused a traffic jam of several kilometers. And on the E17 Antwerp-Gent, a car accident between Kruibeke and Temse caused a traffic jam of several kilometers.
The Flemish Traffic Centre advised drivers to avoid the busiest roads if possible and to use public transport or carpooling.
