Alexander Zverev battled past a resurgent Casper Ruud to reach the semi-finals of the ATP Finals on Friday, keeping alive his hopes of winning the season-ending tournament for the second time.

The German second seed, who won the title in 2018, came from a set down to beat the Norwegian fifth seed 6-3 4-6 7-6(9) in a match that lasted two hours and 54 minutes.

It was a match of high quality, with both players hitting some stunning winners. Zverev was particularly impressive on serve, hitting 13 aces.

Zverev will now face either Novak Djokovic or Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals. Djokovic is the defending champion, while Medvedev is the world number one.

Ruud was playing in his first ATP Finals, and he impressed with his performances throughout the week. He pushed Zverev all the way in the quarter-final, and he will be hoping to build on this experience next year.
