Woolworths and Coles to defend against class action

Woolworths and Coles are set to defend themselves against a class action lawsuit alleging they misled customers about the country of origin of their products.

The lawsuit, filed in the Federal Court of Australia, alleges that the two supermarket giants breached the Australian Consumer Law by selling products that were labelled as being made in Australia when they were actually made in other countries.

The lawsuit is being brought by law firm Maurice Blackburn on behalf of a group of consumers who purchased products from Woolworths and Coles between 2015 and 2023.

Australia votes for ‘permanent sovereignty’ for Palestinians at UN

Australia has voted in favour of a resolution at the United Nations calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state with “permanent sovereignty” over its territory.

The resolution, which was passed by a vote of 128-9, with 35 abstentions, calls on Israel to withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories and to end the blockade of Gaza.

It also calls for the international community to provide support for the establishment of a Palestinian state and to work towards a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
