Michigan firearm deer season set to start Friday
Deer season in Michigan and what to expect
Michigan's firearm deer season starts Friday, and the Department of Natural Resources hopes for a successful hunt.
The season runs from Friday, November 15th, through Sunday, November 30th. Hunters can take one deer per day, with a maximum of two deer per license. The DNR is expecting a harvest of about 400,000 deer this year.
What to expect during deer season
Hunters should be aware of the following during deer season:
- Be safe and follow all hunting regulations.
- Wear hunter orange clothing to be visible to other hunters.
- Be aware of your surroundings and watch for other hunters.
- Hunt in a safe and ethical manner.
The DNR also reminds hunters to check their deer for signs of chronic wasting disease (CWD). CWD is a fatal neurological disease that affects deer, elk, and moose. There have been no confirmed cases of CWD in Michigan deer, but hunters are asked to be vigilant and report any sick deer they see.
