The Philadelphia Eagles lost 31-15 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football in Nick Sirianni’s head coaching debut.
Ryan Fitzpatrick’s First Two Interceptions
Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three interceptions. His first two came in the first half. The first was a pick-six returned by Antoine Winfield Jr. for a touchdown. Fitzpatrick’s second interception came late in the second quarter in the red zone. The Eagles ended the half with only 3 points because of his mistakes.
Jalen Hurts’ Debut
The Eagles offense struggled mightily with Fitzpatrick at the helm. They benched him midway through the third quarter for Jalen Hurts, who went 10-of-20 with 126 yards passing in his regular-season debut.
Hurts’ Stats Compared To Fitzpatrcik
Hurts’ performance was more efficient. During his time on the field, the Eagles offense converted 6 of 12 third downs. On the other hand, the Eagles converted only 1 of 10 third downs with Fitzpatrick at quarterback. Hurts also led the Eagles to the endzone on a 3-yard run.
The Eagles Running Game
Despite Hurts success, the Eagles' running game was ineffective. Miles Sanders and Boston Scott combined for just 52 rushing yards on 17 attempts. Sanders led the team with 38 yards on 11 attempts.
